I created a commemorative digital artwork to celebrate the Festas Juninas (June Festivals), inspired by the traditional woodcut style (xilogravura). I illustrated both the characters and the background, exploring lines and textures that evoke the aesthetics of Brazilian Cordel literature.
The rigging process was carried out by Tiago Patrício, , who brought the elements to life through animation.
The artwork also caught the attention of Tio Pepe, a restaurant known for celebrating Northeastern Brazilian cuisine. They appreciated the concept and invited us to adapt the illustration into a special São João social media post for their brand.
It was truly rewarding to see the artwork repurposed in a new context, while preserving the essence of tradition and regional identity.
The challenge was to translate the rustic look of woodcut art into the animation universe. Through rigging, the goal was to achieve an organic result that stayed true to the essence of the cordel style.
For the musician characters, the biggest technical challenge was syncing their movements to the instruments. To do this, we digitally separated the audio tracks from the soundtrack. Listening to each one individually allowed us to animate the gestures with the precision needed to make it feel like they were truly playing.
